The Lignes project, led by the DNMADE 2 Design Objet Édition & Productions at École Boulle (2025-2026), explores bent rattan as a generative principle for forms.
A collaboration that paves the way for a new family of edited objects for Maison Louis Drucker.
Rattan as a language
Through on-site modeling, using different rattan sections, students experiment with steam bending and explore the specific gestures of the material. This research gives rise to structures drawn in space, where the line becomes a true language.
The specifications are no longer dictated by usage but by the material itself. This unique approach allows students to reveal unexpected forms, guided by the intrinsic properties of rattan.
Supervised by the teaching team composed of Vincent Rossin, Anthony Guerrée, and Bastien Godinou, the students designed eight edited objects rooted in the savoir-faire of Maison Louis Drucker.
The creations
Courbe — Coat rack
Evaelle Gautier & Angela Blondeau Allard

The Courbe coat rack is designed to accommodate coats, jackets, and scarves in public places (restaurants, hotels, etc.). The project relies on steam bending rattan, combined with a reflection on the assembly of sections to preserve the continuity of the line, without visual breaks.
This process was made possible by the development of a custom interlocking system, requiring the manufacture of a specific tool: a custom-made drill bit.
Ondulation — Coat stand
Nina Baurin-Pagé & Baptiste Calizzano

The Ondulation coat stand highlights the material through a simple but expressive deformation. The rattan is bent curve by curve, then leveled cold to stabilize the form. In use, the line seems to be pulled by the weight of the clothes, accentuating the dynamic of the gesture.
Ondulation is designed as a modular object, capable of adapting to different spaces. Its wall mounting systems disappear, revealing only the continuous drawing of the line.
Rythme — Console table
Garance Clamagirand & Zélie Alexandre

Rythme is a wall-mounted console table with two support points. The approach focuses on assembly systems, which define the very identity of the object. The exploration of drilling allows for the design of a structure entirely based on interlocking techniques.
By combining different surface treatments of rattan, the project highlights contrasts between the assembled elements, revealing the technical and aesthetic richness of the material.
Motif — Headboard
Nello Dumas & Ninon Boudesseil

A pattern extracted from the shape of iconic Drucker chairs guided the design of this headboard, made from 40 mm diameter rattan canes. The project relies on the bending of ten U-shaped elements, of two different sizes, assembled with dowels and then covered with Raucord.
The headboard can be entirely braided to offer increased comfort.
280 — Chandelier
Gaspard Duplessis

280 is an architectural chandelier, designed for large spaces. It owes its name to the 280 Raucord threads, hand-stapled, echoing the savoir-faire of Maison Drucker. The rattan circles, formed by bending using molds, structure the luminaire while giving it lightness and rhythm.
The suspension projects, through light, the intertwining of threads and rattan, creating soft glows that evoke the vibration of a flame.
Recomposing rattan — Candlesticks
Alban Talour

This collection of candlesticks explores the dialogue between rattan and copper. Rattan canes, split and recomposed, combine with metal to create graphic lines of great purity.
Available in several formats — freestanding or wall-mounted — these candlesticks play on contrasts of materials and colors, revealing a new facet of rattan in the world of tableware.
Line — Valet stand
Lila Blanc, Amélie Hauser & Prudence Pierre

This valet stand is designed as a sculptural object. The trace of the gesture reveals its curves and structures the space, in service of the expertise of bent rattan. The challenge is to give volume and presence to an initially hand-painted line, while preserving the spontaneity of the gesture. The fabrication of a mold allowed for the hot forming of the cane.
Moduano — Coat racks
Nina Bernheim & Eline Mariette

Moduano is a family of modular coat racks. The figure of the ring, at the heart of the research, gives the objects a strong graphic imprint and a sculptural dimension inspired by jewelry aesthetics. Moduano is composed of independent elements of steamed rattan, allowing for different compositions.
The challenge of their manufacture lies in the difficulty of maintaining the precision of the gesture, the curves, and the small bending radii imposed by the original design.
The link with the "Surfaces" project
The "Lignes" and "Surfaces" projects are two parts of the partnership between Maison Louis Drucker and École Boulle. While Surfaces explored decorative panels and weaving, Lignes focuses on bent rattan and the creation of three-dimensional edited objects.
Towards a diversification of edited objects
This project opens up a diversification of edited objects for Maison Louis Drucker: coat racks, console tables, headboards, luminaires, candlesticks, valet stands... So many new typologies that extend the historical expertise of the House while integrating it into contemporary uses.
