How to Spot an Authentic French Bistro Rattan Chair
On an authentic rattan chair from a French bistro, the structure made of rattan, Manila, or Malacca, steam-bent (or matching aluminum), is hand-upholstered, with each strand being stapled one by one by hand. A very wide choice of shiny or satin colored fibers form endless combinations. A natural or synthetic reed planking gives the chair its final and traditional touch. Solid and lightweight, the rattan chair has been a staple in Parisian bistros since 1895. Maison Drucker can restore even very old furniture. Why Authenticity Matters for a Bistro ChairThe French bistro rattan chair is one of the most copied seats in the world. Its silhouette is everywhere — in catalogs, on terraces, in flat-pack form. Most copies, however, reproduce only the shape: not the materials, not the handweaving, not the exclusive design and not the possibility of repair. For a designer who designs a café or a collector who furnishes a house, knowing the difference simply means choosing a unique chair built according to your choices of colors and caning, to last and be restored.Authenticity is not a label or a logo. It comes down to how the chair is made. Every hallmark below traces back to a specific step of handwork. Once you know what to look for, you can tell a real chair from a replica. The Six Hallmarks of a Genuine French Bistro Chair1. It Is Hand-Woven, Strand by StrandThis is the single most important sign. On an authentic chair, the seat and back are woven from individual strands. Each strand is stapled, tensioned, and re-stapled by hand as the pattern builds. The tension must be exact: too tight and the strand can break; too loose and the seat sags.On aluminum frames, the strands are not stapled but knotted, with the knots left invisible. Weaving a single chair takes our weavers from 3 to 30 hours, depending on the complexity of the pattern and the number of colored strands, across a repertoire of more than 50 weaving patterns. A machine-made “weave” is identical on every unit, with no variation and no tension.2. The Frame Is Shaped, Not ExtrudedThe frame is natural rattan — light Manila or dark Malacca — or, for permanent outdoor use, aluminum finished to match. The raw rattan poles are steamed for about 20 minutes at around 100 °C to soften them. They are then bent over molds and held on their template for three days, so the curve sets. Maison Drucker keeps more than one hundred molds, preserved since the maison's beginnings in 1885. Indoor frames can also be lacquered on request; aluminum frames receive an epoxy finish in nine standard tones (see the colours of the structures).Copies typically stand on thin hollow tube or plastic legs. Tap them: they sound empty, with none of rattan's natural give.3. The Seat Is Finished with a Semi-Round Rattan Ring EdgingFew people know how to check this detail. On an authentic rattan chair, the woven seat is bordered by a semi-round rattan ring edging — a wider, 9 mm strand, available in 10 colors, applied by hand as a finishing step. It frames the pattern cleanly where the weave meets the structure. On aluminum frames, the finishing relies on knotting: the strands are tied off with knots left invisible. On a copy, the join is either molded in one piece or left raw.4. The Color Runs Through the FiberThe colored weave is made of solution-dyed weaving fibers in more than 30 different colors. We use about thirty shades of glossy Rilsan® (a 5 mm fiber, 100% French-made by Arkema, UV-resistant) and about twenty shades of satin Raucord® (a 5 mm HDPE fiber rated from −50 °C to +70 °C). Both are ultra-strong, stand up to sun and humidity.Natural fiber is also available, in 2.5, 5 and 9 mm widths. And because the color is chosen strand by strand, two-tone or multicolor patterned designs are possible — something no copy offers. Explore the full palette in our guide to colors and weaving patterns.5. The Weight and Balance Are RightA French bistro chair was designed to be carried, stacked, set out, and cleared from a terrace dozens of times a day. Weight varies by model. One example: the Fouquet's, the stackable chair woven in the “20 Checkerboard 2/2” pattern on a Manila rattan frame, weighs 5 kg (about 11 lb) for a height of 85 cm (about 33.5 in). That is light enough to lift with one hand, yet rigid and stable when you sit. Many copies exist in both directions: flimsy plastic that flexes, or heavy cast frames that no waiter wants to move.6. It Can Be Restored, Not Just ReplacedThe final hallmark shows over time. Because the seat is woven, it can be re-woven — the same technique that made the chair restore it. Vintage chairs come back to us to be restored and given a second life, using the original molds.Authentic Hand-Woven vs. Machine-Made CopyWhat to checkAuthentic (hand-woven)Mass-produced copySeat & backHand-woven strand by strand, slight living irregularityMolded plastic or resin, perfectly uniformFrameSteam-bent Manila or Malacca rattan (or matched aluminum)Hollow tube or molded plasticSeat finishingSemi-round rattan ring edging; invisible knots on aluminumMolded in one piece or left rawColor30 different colors of shiny fibers and 20 different colors of satin fibers. Each chair passes through three pairs of hands, three distinct crafts:The rotinier shapes and assembles the rattan frame. It takes around five years of practice to qualify as a skilled assembler. The ébéniste builds the wooden chassis when a model calls for one.The weavers — most often women, in a craft passed from one generation to the next — execute the woven patterns that give the chair its surface, its color and its character.Maison Louis Drucker holds the French state's Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant distinction, awarded to companies that keep rare craftsmanship alive. Our chairs have furnished Café de Flore, Le Fouquet's and Les Deux Magots for generations.Buying with ConfidenceWhen you are evaluating a French bistro chair, ask these questions. Is the seat genuinely woven by hand, or molded to look that way? Was the structure of the rattan chair trimmed with a stapled weave, strand by strand, to create a unique jacquard, or a simple pattern sold by the meter? Can the chair be re-woven and repaired years from now? And does the maker actually produce it, with an atelier and a history you can point to? A “yes” to all means you are looking at the real thing. At Maison Louis Drucker, every chair is made to order in France, in 4 to 15 weeks. Explore our rattan chair collection, or discover the full range of colors woven by the atelier.
The Woven Rattan Chair: Colors & Weaving Patterns of the French Bistro Chair
A woven rattan chair owes its color to its weaving fibers, not to paint. At Maison Louis Drucker, the frame is made of natural rattan. The seat and back are woven by hand with colored synthetic fibers: glossy Rilsan® (some thirty colors) and satin Raucord® (some twenty) — or natural fiber.
Each of the glossy (Rilsan®) and satin (Raucord®) colors used for the caning of Maison Louis Drucker furniture, on rattan or aluminum structures, is resistant to light, moisture and impact. The color runs through the strand: it does not fade in the sun and does not fear damp.
Woven strand by strand, the same chair can come in a solid tone, in two tones, or in one of more than 50 weaving patterns. Le Fouquet's chair, for example, is woven in a “20 Checkerboard 2/2” pattern.
This guide presents the color ranges, the structure finishes and the weaving patterns — and how to specify them for a home or a hospitality project.
Where the Color Comes From: The Weaving Fibers
A Drucker rattan chair combines two materials with two different roles. The structure is natural rattan — Manila or Malacca — shaped in the atelier. The weaving then attaches strand by strand to this structure, with the fibers that carry the color.
On a painted chair, the color is a layer on the surface. On a woven chair, each fiber is dyed throughout, and the weaver places every strand one by one. The color can therefore change from one strand to the next: this is how checkerboards, stripes and two-tone designs are built — and how combining fiber colors creates a multitude of jacquards.
The Palette: Two Fibers, Two Finishes, Plus Natural
Glossy Finish — Rilsan® (5 mm)
Rilsan® is a 100% French material with a glossy, light-catching finish. Its chart counts some thirty colors — among them white, cream, ivory, gold, black, brick, chocolate, lemon yellow, mandarin, burgundy and red, along with a range of blues and greens such as sky blue, gipsy blue, marine blue, oil blue, water green, jade green, mint green and pine green. The fiber is UV-resistant and keeps its flexibility and color over time.
Satin Finish — Raucord® (5 mm)
Raucord® has a softer, satin surface that reads as more contemporary. Its range counts some twenty colors, including beige, taupe, terracotta, peach, orange, soft blue, blue lagoon, lavender blue, ultramarine blue, royal blue, blue grey, turmeric yellow, bright yellow, light pink, pink, carmine red, scarlet red, ruby red, emerald green, olive green, apple green and tender green. It withstands temperatures from -50 °C to +70 °C.
Natural Fiber
For the unadorned look of the material itself, natural fiber is available in several gauges (2.5, 5 and 9 mm), in its single natural tone.
The Border
Each chair is finished with a woven border in 9 mm fiber, available in ten colors — so the edge can match the seat or deliberately contrast with it, the simplest form of a two-tone weave.
Frame & Structure Colors
Color does not stop at the weave: the structure itself can be specified in several finishes.

It is the option for chairs that stay fully outdoors. For hospitality projects, a custom aluminum RAL color is possible from 200 pieces, with a sample validated before production. The full detail is on the colours of the structures.
Weaving Patterns: Checkerboard, Two-Tone and Beyond
Our collection counts more than 50 weaving patterns, from the simplest to the most sophisticated, organized in five families — Basic, Classic, Prestige, Exception and Masterpiece.
The Checkerboard (Damier)
The most recognizable French café weave. Le Fouquet's chair is woven in a “20 Checkerboard 2/2” — strands crossing two over two to form small squares — the pattern seen on Parisian terraces for generations.
Two-Tone and Multicolor Weaves
A chair can be woven with one color for the field and another for the border or a band, or with several colors forming stripes and motifs. Weaving a chair takes from 3 to 30 hours of work, depending on the complexity of the pattern and the number of colored strands. On aluminum frames, the strands are knotted rather than stapled — and the knots are invisible. To see the patterns themselves, browse the weaves of Drucker.
Create Your Own Jacquard
Some fifty fiber colors and more than 50 patterns are not just a catalog: they are a creative field. By combining colors and weaves, decorators and architects can compose their own jacquard — even an exclusive caning, reserved for their project or their house.
Designer Philippe Model did exactly this for his 2026 collection with Maison Louis Drucker: his own palette, woven into pieces that exist nowhere else. The same approach is open to a hotel, a café or a design studio — from the first color sample to a signature weave.

Specifying Colors for Your Project
For a home, a color can be chosen to pick up an accent — a green rattan bistro chair against pale stone, a blue one in a coastal palette. For a café or hotel, the weave can carry the venue's own colors, on a standard or custom structure tone. In every case:
Fiber color: any shade from the glossy or satin ranges, or a combination for a two-tone or patterned weave.
Structure color: natural Manila or Malacca rattan, or an aluminum tone for outdoor use.
Samples: on request, we send fiber colors by post, and can weave 15 cm sample squares for advanced projects.
We work directly with architects and designers on color and weave selection. To go further, explore our rattan chair collection, learn how to spot an authentic chair, or browse the full palette on the colors of Drucker.

Caring for Rattan to Preserve Its Radiance
Easy to live with, rattan requires minimal maintenance when properly cared for. To preserve the beauty of your outdoor furniture, simply clean it regularly with a soft cloth and soapy water, and allow it to air dry after each wash. It is best to shelter your pieces during prolonged bad weather and to avoid using abrasive products. Thanks to its protective varnish, Louis Drucker furniture retains its elegance for many years without compromising comfort or beauty.

Durability and strength

However, it should be stored in a dry place during the off-season, and not left for too long in a damp environment such as the seaside, or near a lawn that is regularly watered.
Seating comfort
Comfort is paramount to customer loyalty. A well-designed Parisian terrace chair features an ergonomic backrest and a seat that balances suppleness and firmness. Rattan cane naturally offers this ideal combination, adapting to each user's morphology while retaining its original shape.

Rattan furniture, known for its comfort and visual appeal, makes an excellent choice for such a space. A rattan sofa or a couple of rattan armchairs from Maison Louis Drucker can create a cozy, inviting atmosphere.
To further enhance the French country vibe, consider using cushions with typical French country patterns like toile or gingham. Throw in a couple of Provencal-inspired outdoor rugs, and you've got a cozy seating area that beautifully reflects French country charm.

Rattan bench: how to choose this timeless piece of outdoor furniture
What is a rattan bench?
The rattan bench is a seat whose structure is made from a wild fibrous vine called rattan or rotang, which grows mainly in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia. This raw material arrived in Europe as early as the 16th century, in the holds of ships, and quickly became highly prized for furniture manufacture.
This furniture is characterized by its light but solid structure, which can accommodate one or more people. They can be made with or without backrests, depending on the model and intended use. The seat and back of these rattan benches are upholstered in a weave (or cane), of which you can choose the jacquard and colors. At Maison Louis Drucker, all our rattan benches are fully customizable and made to measure to give them the look you want.
The natural rattan bench has an authentic beauty with shades ranging from very light beige to dark brown, bringing an exotic touch to any space.
The versatility of this piece of furniture allows it to easily find its place in many environments, particularly in bistros, restaurants, but also bars that will give each establishment a unique character:
Verandas
Lounges
Gardens
Terraces
Entryways
Bedrooms
The advantages of rattan benches
The rattan wooden bench has a number of advantages that explain its growing popularity:
Comfort: rattan's fibrous structure provides a supple yet resistant seat, ensuring optimum comfort for your moments of relaxation.
Lightweight: Despite its sturdiness, the rattan bench remains very light, making it easy to move from one space to another as required.
Resistance to climatic variations: The outdoor rattan bench is particularly appreciated for its ability to withstand changes in temperature and moderate weather, making it an ideal choice for terraces and gardens. Be careful, however, not to leave it permanently in damp areas such as lakeshores or seashores!
Infinite customization: Rattan benches are woven (or caned) in your choice of colors and jacquards, allowing a wide variety of patterns and colors to match your décor perfectly.
Rattan benches, for example, can be used in catering areas to define spaces and increase the number of customers that can be accommodated.
The different types of rattan benches
Rattan benches for interiors
Indoor rattan benches come in a variety of styles to suit any space:
The backless rectangular bench: This is the classic model, ideal for entryways or at the foot of a bed. Its simple shape blends into any interior.
The bench with backrest: More comfortable, it's perfect for living areas such as the lounge or veranda. It's also ideal for restaurants and bistros that want to perfectly delineate spaces to seat a greater number of customers.
The box bench: Combining functionality and aesthetics, this model offers storage space under its seat, perfect for small spaces.
The circular bench: This original design is often used around a tree in a conservatory, or as the centerpiece of a spacious entrance hall.
Each of these styles can be custom-made by Maison Louis Drucker craftsmen to your specific requirements in terms of size, shape and finish.
The outdoor rattan bench
The outdoor rattan bench is specially designed to withstand outdoor conditions:
Rattan garden bench: With its reinforced structure, it's perfect for green spaces, adding a natural touch that blends harmoniously into the environment.
Patio bench: Ideal for enjoying the sunny days, this model is often combined with a coffee table to create a convivial relaxation area.
For outdoor use, Maison Louis Drucker recommends aluminum structures with synthetic fiber weave, which preserve the aesthetics of rattan while offering increased resistance to the elements. This option is particularly suitable for coastal or very humid regions.
Maison Louis Drucker's signature rattan bench designs
At Maison Louis Drucker, you can choose from a wide range of rattan furniture. These include:
The Alésia bench: with its sleek design and rectangular shape, the Alésia bench is a contemporary classic, ideal for modern spaces. Without armrests, it can be made to any length.
The Bastille bench: this armless model recalls the atmosphere of Parisian bistros, and offers a convivial space to welcome family and friends.
The Marly bench: with its elegant lines, it brings its own special touch to any indoor or outdoor space.
The Trianon circular bench: this exceptional piece creates a focal point in your garden or veranda.
It goes without saying that rattan benches can add charm to any home.
How to maintain a rattan bench
Although rattan furniture is extremely hard-wearing, it still needs to be maintained to keep its shine. The same applies to rattan benches.
Rattan furniture is very easy to maintain. You can:
Dusting: simply use a vacuum cleaner or a microfiber cloth to dust the surface of the furniture from time to time. The microfiber cloth can reach the narrowest walls of the bench. You can also use a vacuum cleaner for faster, more effective results;
Cleaning: to preserve the shine of your rattan bench, clean it with a sponge soaked in lukewarm water. There's no need to use lemon juice or soda crystals, as these compounds can damage rattan.
By following the above tips, your rattan bench will not suffer the effects of time and will always look as good as new.

Rattan high chairs: how to choose?
So what are the different uses for rattan high chairs? Maison Louis Drucker gives you some practical ideas.
What is a rattan high chair?
The rattan high chair is furniture made from a natural material called rattan or rotang, a fibrous vine that grows mainly in the tropical jungles of Southeast Asia, Indonesia to be precise. A high chair is also distinguished from a conventional chair by its significantly higher seat height. The seat height of a standard chair is around 45 cm, while that of a high chair can vary between 60 and 80 cm, and even up to 120 cm for certain models. This height can be adapted to suit the intended installation.
Versatile, it will fit perfectly into many spaces:
Kitchens with central island
Counters and bars
Cafés and restaurants
Terraces and outdoor spaces
High dining tables
Coworking spaces
The different types of rattan high chairs
The rattan high chair is characterized by its considerable height (generally between 70 and 80 cm) and the presence of a backrest, unlike a simple bar stool. This backrest, woven with a pattern of colors and cane patterns that can be chosen to suit individual tastes, not only provides comfortable support, but is also an aesthetic element that can be customized to suit the decor of the space.
These rattan high chairs are particularly popular in bars and restaurants, as they offer a good balance between comfort and style. The woven backrest can be produced in a variety of colors and weaves, creating a unique ambience in harmony with the rest of the decor.
The high rattan bar stool
The high rattan bar stool is a seat model without backrest or armrests. More minimalist than the high chair, it consists solely of a rattan structure and a woven seat, also woven in your colors and according to your choice of cane. Its height can vary according to your needs:
60-65 cm: ideal for kitchen islands around 90 cm high
75-80 cm: perfect for high tables, standing tables, counters and standard bars
These chairs are particularly popular in tight spaces such as bars, as they can slide completely under the counter when not in use, freeing up space.
The rattan highchair for children
Specially designed for the little ones, the children's high chair is equipped with a safety bar and sometimes a removable tray. This model is particularly sought-after by restaurateurs, who can welcome families and parents who wish to integrate a piece that is both essential and designer into their interior. For this children's highchair, you can also choose your own colors and weave. Exclusive furniture for you, far from impersonal plastic models.
The rattan kitchen high chair
The rattan kitchen high chair is slightly lower than the bar models (approx. 65-70 cm) and fits perfectly with modern kitchen islands. Here, too, you can choose your own color and cane design. Its design is often more streamlined to blend harmoniously into the family space. In the kitchen, it combines functionality and aesthetics, offering practical seating space for quick meals or to keep the chef company while cooking.
The advantages of rattan high chairs
Rattan high chairs have been, are and always will be a hit thanks to their many advantages:
Strength and durability: Naturally robust and impact-resistant, ideal for intensive use. For outdoor use, Maison Louis Drucker offers aluminum models with synthetic weave for superior weather resistance.
Lightweight and maneuverable: easy to move despite their sturdiness, perfect for spaces requiring frequent reconfiguration.
Aesthetics and customization: Integrates into all decorative styles (bohemian, rustic, contemporary) with an infinite number of weaving and color possibilities to create unique pieces that will be the signature of your establishment.
Comfort and ergonomics: Rattan's natural flexibility offers a slight suppleness that adapts to the body, with a breathable weave that's pleasant in hot environments.
Ecology and sustainability: A renewable natural resource whose cultivation contributes to the preservation of tropical forests, with a lower carbon footprint than plastic or metal furniture.
Care: Maison Louis Drucker rattan high chairs are very easy to care for, even outdoors - just wipe them down with a cloth from time to time!

Can Rattan Get Wet? Outdoor Rattan Care — Workshop Secrets from Maison Louis Drucker
Can rattan get wet?
Yes — but it depends on the fiber. Natural rattan is sensitive to excessive humidity: it can withstand occasional rain as long as you let it dry outside once the weather improves, but it should never be soaked or left on damp ground. Synthetic-fiber weaves such as Rilsan® and Raucord®, on the other hand, are highly resistant to water and UV and can stay outdoors all year round, even in coastal areas. Below, our craftsmen share how to care for your outdoor rattan furniture so it lasts for decades.
Maison Louis Drucker is all about the art of rattan, cane and, more recently, metal, inviting you into all your outdoor spaces with a touch of character and unrivalled elegance. Rattan furniture, a symbol of French know-how for over a century at Maison Louis Drucker, nevertheless deserves special attention to preserve its beauty and sturdiness through the seasons.
From Parisian terraces to private gardens the world over, you can keep these handcrafted, iconic pieces alive with a few simple but essential steps.
Find out how to care for your outdoor rattan furniture, with a few secrets from our craftsmen!
Specific care requirements for outdoor rattan
The rattan furniture Outdoor rattan furniture requires special care in the face of the elements. Contrary to popular belief, the durability of your furniture depends less on the material itself than on the regular care you give it, and above all, on its environment!
The importance of the environment for your furniture
Although rattan comes from the tropical forests of Indonesia, it is particularly sensitive to excessive humidity. To preserve its structure and aesthetics, you should avoid placing your rattan furniture on damp ground, such as a lawn that is regularly watered. These moisture-saturated environments considerably accelerate the degradation of the natural fibers.
For coastal regions or high-humidity areas, Maison Louis Drucker recommends the option of powder-coated aluminum structures with synthetic fiber weave. This combination offers optimum strength while retaining the traditional aesthetics of rattan.
And what about the weather? Yes, outdoor rattan furniture can "survive" heavy rain, as long as you leave it outside to dry once the weather's fine.
Differences between natural rattan and synthetic fiber blades
Rattan furniture consists of a rattan or rattan or aluminum structureThis structure is then covered with a cane (or weave). Chairs with rattan structures from Manila or Malacca, or those with aluminum structures, can be upholstered with natural strips taken directly from the bark of rattan canes. In this case, they require regular maintenance to preserve their lustre and sturdiness.
Rattan or aluminum furniture can also, and above all, be woven from unalterable glossy or satin-finish synthetic fibers in a wide choice of colors.
Rilsan®, a polymer derived from castor oil, or Raucord®, offer exceptional UV and weather resistance. These materials, carefully selected for their superior quality, require minimal maintenance while guaranteeing longevity and preserved aesthetics.
Seasonal precautions
Two main principles govern the seasonal care of rattan furniture:
Winter period (October 15 - March 15 in Europe): You can use it outdoors during the day, but it is preferable to put it under cover at night to avoid damage caused by prolonged humidity.
Weather permitting: Your rattan furniture can remain outdoors permanently in a dry environment. However, in the event of persistent rain, limit exposure to a maximum of two or three days before putting it out to dry in a sheltered spot.
For furniture in powder-coated aluminum woven with synthetic fibers, weather resistance means year-round outdoor use, even in marine environments. This alternative combines the traditional aesthetics of rattan with optimum robustness against the elements.
How to clean rattan furniture
Regular maintenance is the secret to the longevity of Maison Louis Drucker pieces. A few simple steps are all it takes to clean your rattan furniture and preserve the shine and strength of your pieces over time.
Cleaning natural woven rattan furniture
For furniture in natural woven rattan, we recommend regular dusting with a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner fitted with an appropriate brush. This regular attention prevents dust accumulation in the interstices of the weave.
For light stains:
Prepare a solution of warm, slightly soapy water
Gently rub the affected area with a damp (not soaking wet) sponge.
Rinse with a clean damp cloth
Dry immediately and carefully to avoid deformation.
Watch out! Never soak rattan or natural-fiber woven aluminum furniture! Excessive moisture, even during cleaning, can lead to softening of the fibers and permanent deformation.
To revive the shine of natural fibers, apply an occasional thin coat of linseed oil with a soft cloth. This practice nourishes the material and reinforces its resistance to external aggression.
Care for synthetic fibers (Rilsan and Raucord)
Weaves in glossy Rilsan® or satin-finish Raucord® offer the advantage of simplified maintenance.
Clean with mild soapy water if necessary
Use a soft brush for more complex weaves
Rinse thoroughly without letting the water stagnate
Leave to dry naturally, preferably in the shade
The exceptional UV and weather resistance of these fibers ensures that Maison Louis Drucker's signature vivid colors are preserved without special treatment.
Special care for aluminum furniture
Powder-coated aluminum furniture is low-maintenance, but benefits from these special features:
Simple cleaning with clear water and mild soap if necessary
Never use abrasive products that could damage the finish.
By the sea, rinse more frequently to remove salt residue
Check assemblies occasionally to maintain optimum stability
When should you call Maison Louis Drucker?
Even with rigorous care, your rattan furniture may require professional restoration after many years of use.
Diagnosis of common damage
There are signs that expert intervention is becoming necessary:
Broken or frayed fibers on the weave
Structural deformation
Excessive play in assemblies
Loss of tension in the cane
Significant discoloration despite regular maintenance
These alterations are quite normal over time, with dozens or even hundreds of people sitting on them throughout the day, handling them and subjecting them to micro-shocks. This doesn't mean the end of your furniture's life, but rather the time to give it a second lease of life in expert hands, to make it last for many years to come!
Repair and renovation services
Maison Louis Drucker offers complete restoration services for your rattan furniture. Our skilled craftsmen will restore your pieces to their original splendor:
Complete or partial reweaving
Resurfacing relaxed weaves
Replacement of damaged structural parts
Full revarnishing
Identical reproductions of historical pieces
This approach is in line with our philosophy of durability and craftsmanship excellence. Thanks to the precious preservation of original molds and templates since the creation of the company, each model can be restored to its original splendor, whatever its age.
Maison Louis Drucker is currently the only French manufacturer able to offer specialized maintenance for aluminum-framed woven furniture. It is important to note that, unlike rattan structures, paint chips on aluminum structures cannot be touched up. Repainting would require a baking process that would irreparably damage the weave. This technical specificity reinforces the importance of preventive maintenance for these structures.
Preserving the elegance and durability of your Drucker furniture
Between your daily care and the expertise of Maison Louis Drucker craftsmen for more extensive restorations, your rattan furniture will retain its beauty and comfort for decades to come! The combination of proper care practices and centuries-old know-how makes each piece not just a piece of furniture, but a living legacy of craftsmanship excellence.
If you have any questions about the care of outdoor rattan or the restoration of your furniture, the Maison Louis Drucker team is at your disposal for personalized advice to prolong the life of these unique creations. Contact us!
Choosing a stackable rattan chair for your space
Why choose a stackable rattan chair?
Lightweight design
One of the standout features of stackable rattan chairs is their lightweight structure, making them easy to move and handle. This is particularly beneficial in hospitality environments, where staff can rearrange chairs quickly without much physical strain. In addition to preventing injuries related to lifting, the lightweight nature of these chairs also simplifies end-of-day storage. For homeowners, this ease of movement means you can effortlessly adjust the layout of your outdoor or indoor space, whether you’re shifting furniture to follow the shade or bringing it indoors during the wrong season.
Convenience
Stackable rattan chairs are synonymous with practicality. In busy restaurants or cafés, the ability to stack and store chairs efficiently saves time and maximizes space flexibility, especially during peak hours. Their easy-to-clean surfaces are a major bonus, particularly in environments where spills are common. A quick wipe-down is usually enough to maintain their appearance. For home use, this convenience translates into flexibility. You can bring out additional seating for guests and just as easily stow them away when not needed.
Space-saving benefits
The ability to stack these chairs provides a smart solution for saving space. When not in use, they can be neatly stored in a corner or closet, freeing up valuable room. For businesses, this means quickly adjusting the layout to accommodate varying numbers of customers. At home, stackable rattan chairs are ideal for maximizing space on balconies or terraces, particularly in smaller urban apartments. They merge both style and function, offering a warm, welcoming atmosphere without compromising on practical storage.
Rattan vs. aluminum frame options
Maison Louis Drucker offers stackable chairs with both rattan and aluminum frames, giving customers options based on their specific needs. Natural rattan frames lend a handcrafted, rustic charm, making them perfect for creating a cozy ambiance, whether on a café terrace or in a private garden. However, these chairs may require a bit more care, especially if left outside. On the other hand, aluminum-framed chairs are lightweight, resistant to rust, and easy to maintain. They offer the same aesthetic appeal as rattan but are better suited for outdoor environments where durability and weather resistance are priorities.
Maison Louis Drucker’s stackable rattan chairs
At Maison Louis Drucker, we combine traditional craftsmanship with modern design to create stackable rattan chairs that are both stylish and functional. Whether you’re drawn to the natural warmth of rattan or the practical, lightweight benefits of aluminum, our chairs are designed to suit a range of spaces, from professional environments to private homes. Perfect for café terraces, gardens, and contemporary interiors, these chairs offer comfort, longevity, and ease of use. Explore our customizable range of stackable rattan chairs and find the perfect fit for your space.
Round or square table: Which model to choose?
Round tables: conviviality and space-saving
Round tables are particularly popular for their ability to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Their angle-free shape promotes conviviality, allowing everyone to see and interact easily, making them an ideal choice for cafes, bistros, and tea rooms. They also bring a certain charm with their rounded and timeless design, capable of adapting to different decor styles, including with Maison Louis Drucker rattan chairs. Moreover, round tables generally take up less space, making them perfect for confined areas such as terraces or small cozy corners. However, they can show their limitations when it comes to hosting large groups, as it becomes difficult to add chairs without sacrificing comfort. They are also less suitable for formal meals where the arrangement of dishes and cutlery requires more stability.
Square tables: structure and adaptability
Square tables are distinguished by their structured side and their ability to adapt to different configurations. They are often preferred for formal meals, as their shape allows for a more orderly arrangement of cutlery and dishes, thus offering a more elegant setting for dinners. They also have the advantage of being modular: it is possible to place them side by side to enlarge the reception area, thus meeting various event needs. Finally, although they take up a little more space, they can easily be stored against a wall or in a corner to optimize available space. However, the corners of these tables can be inconvenient in narrow spaces and can create "barriers" between guests, making interactions less fluid compared to round tables.
How to choose between a round and a square table?
For cafes and relaxed atmospheres
If you are looking to create a space where your customers feel comfortable lingering over coffee, chatting, and enjoying a pleasant moment, round tables will probably be the best choice. Their angle-free shape promotes exchanges and creates an intimate and friendly atmosphere, ideal for cafes, bistros, or tea rooms. They are particularly suitable for breakfasts and brunches, where the goal is to enjoy a relaxed moment around hot drinks, pastries, or shared dishes. Round tables allow everyone to help themselves easily, encouraging spontaneous interactions and pleasant discussions, thus contributing to the warm atmosphere of a place.
For formal dinners and modular spaces
On the other hand, if you are looking to furnish a formal dining room or if you need flexibility to organize meals with varied configurations, square tables will be more suitable. Their shape offers an orderly structure, ideal for more traditional meals like dinners, where a symmetrical arrangement of cutlery and dishes is essential for elegant and well-organized service. Square tables are also very well suited for brunches or lunches, especially when it comes to serving several distinct dishes or maintaining a certain distance between guests. Moreover, they are modular: several square tables can be combined to create larger reception areas, perfect for events or group meals. Their simplicity and flexibility make them a versatile choice that easily adapts to variations in layout and service.
Maison Louis Drucker: elegant solutions and conclusion
Whether you prefer round tables for their conviviality or square tables for their structured appearance, Maison Louis Drucker offers elegant and customizable solutions for furnishing your spaces. With our range of rattan furniture, bring charm and authenticity to your decor, while benefiting from the robustness and lightness of rattan. Their ergonomic design helps create a friendly environment, conducive to family meals or gatherings with friends. Versatility of stools and high chairs
Rattan stools and high chairs are perfectly suited for various environments. High chairs add a touch of sophistication, making them ideal for formal dining, while lightweight and stackable stools are perfect for everyday use. Ideal height of stools
Choosing the right height for stools is essential for balancing comfort and functionality. For a kitchen island or a high table, it is recommended to select stools with an appropriate seat height to ensure a pleasant experience. For example, for counters measuring 90 to 95 cm, opt for stools with a seat height of 60 to 65 cm. This choice allows for comfortable seating while providing ample legroom.

The art of color in rattan furniture
The different varieties of rattan: an initial choice of color
For the structure of your furniture, two main varieties of rattan are available, each offering distinct aesthetic possibilities for your chairs and furnishings, on which weaving and colors have a different impact:
Light Rattan (Manila): Brings a natural and bright touch, especially suitable for vibrant or pastel colors, creating a fresh and welcoming atmosphere.
Dark Rattan (Malacca): Offers an elegant and sophisticated base, ideal for pairing with rich, deep colors, adding a note of luxury and refinement.
The choice between light and dark rattan already sets a significant aesthetic direction for your pieces, influencing the contrast and harmony with your chosen colors.
Customization possibilities with Maison Louis Drucker’s wide range of color options
Choice of 56 colors: matte and glossy
With 26 matte shades and 30 glossy colors, each customer can find the perfect combination to harmonize their furniture with their interior. Whether you prefer a monochromatic style or bold color blends, the possibilities are endless. Discover all our color options on our dedicated page.
Combining colors and weavings: a creative duo
At Maison Louis Drucker, blending weaves and colors is an art. The choice of weaving style, from simple to complex, transforms the look of each chair. For example, the Fouquet’s Blue model with a simple monochrome weave or the Houlgate Orange with a sophisticated, colorful pattern perfectly illustrate this diversity.
How to choose the perfect color for your rattan chair?
Harmony with your interior
For a harmonious decor, it’s essential to coordinate the colors of your chairs with your walls, floors, and other elements in your space. A subtle blend of tones can add a touch of elegance and refinement. Colors influence the atmosphere: warm, vibrant tones like red, orange, or yellow bring energy and joy, while cool, calming shades like blue, green, or purple create a peaceful ambiance. These choices can have a significant impact on the mood of your spaces, whether for a lively environment or a relaxing retreat.
Creating contrast for striking visual effect
To make your furniture stand out and catch the eye, don’t hesitate to use contrasting colors! On the color wheel, opposites like red and green, orange and blue, or yellow and purple create a bold contrast, making each color more vivid and intense when placed side by side. This technique can add vibrancy to your decor. Alternatively, these colors can neutralize each other when blended, which can also be an interesting option depending on the desired effect.
The emotional impact of color
Colors play a crucial role in influencing emotions and mood. Warm, bright colors boost energy and happiness, while cool tones bring serenity and calm. Consider these effects when choosing the ideal color for your rattan chairs to create an ambiance that aligns with your needs and preferences.
Color relationships
Color relationships come in many forms: monochromatic, analogous, complementary, triadic, tetradic, neutral, and random. The simplest relationship, monochromatic, uses a single color with different shades and variations. Understanding these relationships helps you choose colors that harmonize with your interior and create the desired effect.
Maison Louis Drucker: the alliance of craftsmanship and color
Color is central to personalizing rattan furniture. With a wide choice of shades and weaves, Maison Louis Drucker allows its clients to create unique pieces tailored to their tastes. By playing with contrasts, combinations, and color harmony, each chair becomes a design object in its own right. Explore our custom creation options to turn your ideas into reality.
Choosing the right tabletop: material, styles, and tips
Different table top materials
Laminate table tops
Laminate table tops are made of layers of kraft paper compressed in melamine resin, making them both an economical and durable option. Thanks to a wide variety of colours and finishes, they can easily imitate other materials such as wood or stone, while remaining lightweight and easy to maintain. These table tops are particularly suitable for indoor use or in restaurants, as they are resistant to scratches and moisture and offer a wide range of customisation options.
Laminate resin table tops
Similar to laminate table tops, laminate resin table tops are distinguished by their smooth, uniform finish, obtained by moulding with a coloured sheet. Although the colour options are more limited than for classic laminates, this type of table top features an aesthetic and stain-resistant surface, ideal for interior spaces or reception areas where elegance is paramount.
Enamel table tops
Enamel table tops, made from plywood covered with enamelled plates fused at high temperature (around 800°C), are renowned for their exceptional durability, which can last for a century. In addition to their robustness, these table tops allow for colourful customisation and screen-printed patterns on request, making them perfect for café terraces, hotels or other high-traffic outdoor areas.
Ceramic table tops
Elegant and timeless, ceramic table tops, often set with brass, stainless steel or copper, are a classic on Parisian terraces. Available in shades of white, black or green with natural veins, they lend a high-end look to any space. In addition to their refined aesthetics, they are weather-resistant, making them an excellent choice for elegant terraces or outdoor spaces requiring little maintenance.
Wooden table tops
Wooden table tops, whether solid or glued laminated oak, bring a warm and natural touch to your interior. Solid French oak, raw or stained in several shades, can be used to create a unique and refined atmosphere in a dining room or living room. This noble and durable material, although requiring some maintenance to retain its beauty, remains a popular choice for those seeking authenticity.
Marble table tops
Marble, with its natural veins and varied colours, is a luxurious material par excellence. Each piece of marble is unique, with shades and veins that differ depending on the quarry of extraction. Highly prized in high-end spaces, marble table tops offer a refined and sophisticated look, whether in a living room, dining room or prestigious office. However, they require regular maintenance to preserve their polish and avoid stains.
Granite table tops
Granite, an igneous rock composed of quartz, mica and feldspar, is known for its extreme durability. Its grainy texture and natural heat resistance make it an ideal choice for kitchens or outdoor spaces. As with marble, each piece of granite has natural variations in terms of shades and veins, making it both a robust and aesthetically interesting option for those looking for a durable material without sacrificing style.
Tips for choosing your table top
Consider the intended use
The material of your table top should match the use you will make of it. For a terrace or outdoor space, it is advisable to choose materials such as ceramic, granite or enamel, which are weather-resistant. On the other hand, for a dining room or living room, warmer materials such as wood or marble will bring a touch of comfort and elegance.
Think about maintenance
Some materials, such as marble and wood, require more regular maintenance to maintain their original appearance. Others, such as laminate or ceramic, are easier to maintain on a daily basis, which can be a decisive factor in choosing the material according to your lifestyle.
Play with styles
The choice of material and its finish can deeply influence the style of your space. A raw wood table top will bring a rustic and warm atmosphere, while a ceramic or marble table top, set with metal, will add a chic and timeless touch to your decor.
Find the perfect table top to enhance your space
Depending on your needs, the space where the table will be installed and the desired style, the choice of material is crucial to guarantee durability and aesthetics. Whether you opt for a wooden, marble, ceramic or enamel table top, it is essential to consider the intended use, maintenance and harmony with your interior or exterior. With the right information, you can easily find the table top that will perfectly fit your decor, while remaining functional and elegant. Explore our collection of custom-made table tops on our dedicated page and create the unique table perfectly adapted to your expectations.

Rattan or aluminum frame: which choice for your stools?
The frame of your stool is a key element in choosing durability and use. We offer two options adapted to different needs: rattan and aluminum.
Rattan frame stools: for indoor and semi-open spaces
Rattan is a natural, light, and warm material that brings a touch of authenticity to your interior or semi-open spaces. It is an ideal option for covered terraces or semi-outdoor areas, where a natural and organic look is desired.
Aluminum frame stools: for outdoor use all year round
Aluminum is perfect for outdoor use, especially for terraces, gardens, or spaces exposed to bad weather. This material is resistant to climatic conditions and requires little maintenance, while offering an elegant and modern look.
Quality weaves for each frame
Our weaving artisans create wonders on both types of frames, whether for rattan or aluminum. The jacquard weave provides a unique and sophisticated finish, while being durable and easy to maintain.
What is the ideal height for a high-top stool?
The height of the stool depends on the type of countertop it will be paired with. It is essential to leave enough space between the seat and the countertop to ensure comfortable seating. Here are the recommended heights depending on the use:
Height for a bar stool
For a bar measuring between 105 and 110 cm in height, a stool with a seat height of 75 to 80 cm is recommended. This allows for a comfortable distance between the seat and the countertop.
Height for a kitchen or island stool
If you have a kitchen island or a high-top counter with a height of 90 to 95 cm, it is best to choose a stool with a seat height of 60 to 65 cm. This height allows you to sit comfortably while having enough legroom.
Height for a lower stool
For lower spaces, such as a coffee table or occasional use around a table, a stool of 45 to 50 cm will be perfect. This offers comfortable seating while being suitable for lower countertops.
Consider the thickness of the countertop
It is important to consider the thickness of the countertop. A thick countertop may require a slightly higher seat to compensate and ensure sufficient legroom.
How to choose the right height for your stool
Choosing the height of the stool is essential to ensure optimal comfort while preserving the aesthetics of your space. Whether you opt for rattan-framed stools for indoor or semi-outdoor use, or aluminum-framed stools for outdoor use, we offer personalized solutions thanks to our hand-woven fabrics. Choose the perfect height based on your countertop and enjoy elegant and functional seating.
Rattan furniture and its French style
The grandiosity of Louis XIV style
Louis XIV style, named after the “Sun King,” is synonymous with opulence and grandiosity. This style emerged during a fifteen-year period of artistic flourishing and was characterized by its ornate details, exotic woods, and gilt bronze embellishments.
Rattan furniture, with its intricate weaving and ability to incorporate intricate designs, aligns well with the grand aesthetic of Louis XIV style. The natural elegance of rattan adds a subtle yet sophisticated touch, reflecting the artistic richness of this epoch.
The elegance of Louis XV style and curved lines
The Louis XV style is distinguished by its curved lines, delicate ornaments, and lighter, more comfortable designs. This style represents a shift towards more practical and usable furniture while maintaining aesthetic brilliance.
Incorporating rattan in Louis XV style furniture brings forth a harmonious blend of elegance and comfort. The curved lines and intricate patterns of rattan weave resonate with the decorative motifs of this style, offering a timeless piece of decorative art.
The symmetry of empire style
Emerging during the early 19th century, Empire style is characterized by its straight lines, symmetry, and references to antiquity. This style, influenced by the French Revolution, represents power, grandeur, and a return to classical themes.
Rattan furniture, with its adaptability, complements the structural clarity and symmetrical elegance of Empire style. The natural texture of rattan juxtaposed with the clean lines of this style creates a balanced and refined piece, reflective of this period’s aesthetic values.
The modernism of art deco
Art Deco, a revolutionary movement in the decorative arts, brought forth a new aesthetic characterized by bold geometric shapes, rich colors, and lavish ornamentation. This style represents modernism turned into fashion, marking a departure from the historical revivals of the previous styles.

The renaissance of rattan in contemporary designs
In recent years, rattan has experienced a renaissance, finding its place in contemporary designs. Its natural and aesthetic appeal resonates with the current trends of sustainable and eco-friendly living. The modern designs, while simplistic, amplify rattan’s inherent elegance, offering a fresh perspective on this traditional material.
The incorporation of rattan in contemporary furniture allows for the exploration of new design territories. Its flexibility and versatility have led to the creation of innovative and eclectic pieces, extending the boundaries of conventional furniture design and offering a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity.
The versatile nature of rattan
Rattan’s versatility is one of its most remarkable attributes, allowing it to adapt to various styles and settings. Whether it’s the intricate weaving in a classic piece or the sleek lines in a modern design, rattan adds a distinctive touch to every piece of furniture. Its adaptability makes it a preferred choice for designers seeking to create unique and personalized pieces.
This versatile nature extends to the practicality of rattan furniture. Lightweight yet durable, rattan furniture is easy to move and rearrange, offering flexibility in space management and décor arrangement, making it a practical choice for dynamic and evolving living spaces.
The sustainable choice : rattan’s eco-friendly appeal
In an era where sustainability is pivotal, rattan stands out as an eco-friendly alternative. Being a fast-growing and renewable resource, it represents responsible consumption and minimal environmental impact. Choosing rattan furniture is a step towards environmental consciousness, reflecting a lifestyle that values sustainability without compromising on style and quality.
The sustainable appeal of rattan goes beyond its source; it extends to the longevity and durability of rattan furniture. Its ability to withstand time and usage makes it a sustainable choice in the long run, offering value and reducing the need for frequent replacements.
Customization and personal expression
Rattan offers extensive possibilities for customization, allowing individuals to express their personal style. The ability to modify designs, colors, and patterns enables the creation of unique pieces that reflect individual tastes and preferences. This level of personal expression enhances the emotional connection between the owner and the piece, adding a layer of personal value to the furniture.
Customization also extends to the functional aspects of rattan furniture. Modifications in size and structure can adapt the furniture to specific needs and spaces, ensuring a perfect fit and optimal utilization of space, making rattan furniture a harmonious addition to any living environment.

Its natural texture and weaving patterns add a layer of visual interest and depth, enriching the overall aesthetic composition. Rattan’s integration in decorative motifs enhances the visual harmony of the space, creating a cohesive and balanced environment.
The revolutionary use of rattan in decorative motifs extends beyond its natural form. How to furnish your patio for autumn?
Designing a functional and aesthetic layout
The layout of your terrace should not only be beautiful but also practical. It is crucial to carefully consider the use of every square meter to optimize space, especially in small areas.
Maximizing available space
Whether you have a large terrace or a more restricted space, optimizing every square centimeter is essential. In small spaces, it is recommended to choose modular furniture. For example, a folding table or stackable chairs can be easily stored when not in use, freeing up space for other activities. To create a sense of space, consider using climbing plants to decorate your walls while adding a touch of greenery without taking up floor space.
Selecting suitable furniture
The choice of garden furniture is essential for a successful layout. Opt for durable, weather-resistant materials, such as woven rattan, a timeless classic that combines tradition and elegance. Maison Louis Drucker's creations are perfect for this: they bring a touch of Parisian authenticity while being designed to last. Also, consider choosing furniture that harmonizes with the floor covering. For example, a wooden floor will perfectly match rattan chairs for a natural and warm look.
Creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere
A well-arranged terrace is not just about good furniture. The atmosphere you create there is just as important. Maison Louis Drucker offers advice to create an atmosphere that suits you, while taking practical elements into account.
The choice of decorative accessories
Decoration ideas for your terrace are endless, but it is important not to overload the space. For a warm atmosphere, opt for outdoor rugs that delimit zones and add comfort underfoot. Also, add climbing plants to bring greenery and energize the space. A well-chosen garden lounge, with colorful cushions and decorative objects such as lanterns or statuettes, will contribute to the overall ambiance.
Lighting for a unique atmosphere
Outdoor lighting is a key element to create a friendly atmosphere on your terrace, especially when the sun sets. Install string lights for a festive effect, or opt for solar lamps that automatically light up at dusk. If your terrace is large, consider adding light points in strategic places, such as near the garden lounge or climbing plants, to highlight these elements and show them off.
Protecting and personalizing your outdoor space
Protection from natural elements and personalization of your terrace are often overlooked aspects, yet essential for a successful layout.
Protecting yourself from the sun and prying eyes
It is crucial to protect relaxation areas from the sun to fully enjoy your terrace, especially during hot summer days. Installing a shade sail is a practical and aesthetic solution. This type of protection is not only effective in blocking UV rays, but it also adds a design touch to your terrace. For city terraces, where overlooking views can be troublesome, consider installing screens or trellises. These elements help preserve your privacy while adding an aesthetic dimension to your outdoor space.
Choosing the right materials for easy maintenance
A successful layout also relies on the durability of the chosen materials. Opting for a wooden or composite floor is an excellent choice, as these materials are not only aesthetic but also easy to maintain. Wood, for example, brings a natural and warm touch, while composite offers great resistance to bad weather. Remember that the floor covering must be adapted to the use you make of it: a non-slip floor is essential around a swimming pool or a children's play area.
Personalizing your space according to your tastes
Finally, to make your terrace truly yours, don't hesitate to personalize it according to your tastes. Whether through the choice of plants, decorative accessories, or furniture, your terrace should be a reflection of your personality. You can, for example, set up a reading corner with a comfortable armchair from Maison Louis Drucker, accompanied by a small table to put your books and a cup of tea. Add cushions and throws for optimal comfort, and you will have created a cozy space where it is good to relax.
