L’Éclisse: who said modern design and craftsmanship were incompatible?
Fanny Serouart didn’t choose her brand name by chance. Splint in carpentry, refers to the piece that joins two elements together, and in rattan, the splint also refers to the blade taken from the rattan stem, supple and resistant. It is used to upholster rattan furniture in a variety of jacquards. L’Éclisse was a natural choice for this collaboration between the world of leather and the tradition of canework. A graduate of the École Boulle and then trained at L’ENSCI-Les Ateliers, this designer by training and at heart draws her inspiration from the cultural contrasts and identities between Northern France and Brittany.
Its approach? To create objects that stand the test of time, drawing on the cultural heritage and know-how of specific territories. Alongside her work as a designer, Fanny Serouart works as a consultant designer for various industries (automotive, electronics, cosmetics, luxury goods), enriching her creative vision.
Maison Louis Drucker know-how at the service of leather goods

Concretelyhow is this collaboration organized in our workshops? The process reveals all the meticulousness of our traditional know-how adapted to a new creative territory:
- Made-to-measure design: L’Éclisse supplies us with custom-cut wooden frames, designed to perfectly match the desired shape of each bag model. These frames are designed down to the millimeter to ensure that the final caning respects the proportions and ergonomics of each piece of leatherwork.
- Applying our technique: Our weavers apply exactly the same method as for our bistro chairs. They fill these miniature frames with our glossy Rilsan® or satin-finish Raucord® fibers, strand by strand, using the same technique handed down for generations in our Venette workshops.
- Millimetric technical adaptation: accustomed to upholstering the seats and backrests of Maison Louis Drucker furniture, our weavers adapt their know-how to the reduced volumes and particular curves of leather goods. Each strand is stapled, tensioned and re-stapled with unrivalled precision, whether it’s a restaurant chair or a top-of-the-range handbag.
- Customized patterns: The first models feature our emblematic cane patterns: colorful checkerboards, intricate geometric designs, and the play of bright colors that have been the signature of Parisian terraces for over a century. The difference? This time, these iconic weaves are worn instead of worn!
- The Maison Louis Drucker quality guarantee: Each finished piece undergoes the same tension, regularity and finish checks as our furniture. The result: accessories that combine the legendary aesthetics of Parisian bistros with the legendary sturdiness of our creations.
A daring technical challenge, brilliantly met

Adapting the traditional caning technique to leather goods was no easy task! The constraints are completely different: while a chair has to support the weight of a seated person, a bag has to withstand daily rubbing and repeated handling, while retaining its shape and aesthetics!
When living heritage inspires contemporary creation

This alliance between L’Éclisse and Maison Louis Drucker embodies the bold fusion between two houses committed to detail, respectful of materials and the time required for creation.
On the one hand, a young designer who explores the boundaries between craftsmanship and contemporary creation, driven by the desire to bring timeless know-how into dialogue with today’s aesthetic codes. On the other, a factory with the “Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant” (Living Heritage Company) label that refuses to be confined by the past, and opens up its archives and expertise to innovative projects.
The result? Unique pieces that reinterpret the codes of traditional caning in the world of high-end leather goods, proving that our artisanal heritage is anything but static. This collaboration is a perfect illustration of our philosophy: a living heritage must evolve, adapt and surprise, while preserving its profound authenticity.
For Maison Louis Drucker, this experience reveals unexpected perspectives. Our weavers discover new technical challenges, our iconic patterns find new territories of expression, and our image is naturally modernized.
