Mikiya Kobayashi

Mikiya Kobayashi was born in Tokyo in 1981. He graduated from Musashino University of Art in Tokyo in 2004. In 2005, he worked for FIELD FOUR DESIGN OFFICE, one of the largest interior design firms in the Japan. In 2006, he founded his studio in Tokyo and began to design wood products.
Since the beginning, Mikiya Kobayashi’s creative process has focused on the search for uniqueness in minimal forms. Thanks to his penchant for natural resources, wood has become one of the main materials used for his projects over the years. Kobayashi has always been closely tied to his cultural heritage, linking tradition with new concepts, processes and manufacturing technologies. More recent projects include the design of a collection of socks for LEMNOS, a radio/speaker for LEXON (France), a bistro chair for MAISON DRUCKER (France), a collection of fabrics for AQUACLEAN (Spain) and a stool for DIABLA (Spain). In 2018, he opened his second studio in Valencia (Spain), to better connect with the growing number of European clients. He developed the lifestyle brand IMPLEMENTS, with the desire to deliver products that enrich people’s lives.
The Masséna armchair with constrained dimensions designed by Mikiya Kobayashi was made in 2018 by the MAISON DRUCKER workshops. It is available in both rattan and aluminium. Lightweight, comfortable and modern, it is suitable for indoor or outdoor professional use.
